Design to Fab began with backyard creative efforts. It was here Karen learned some welding basics from Jason, joining old found car fans and pieces of steel together to create a flower sculpture for our own garden. Next, Jason fabricated some fire pits for display at a local garden centre, from which we received an enquiry to create a large 3D pear sculpture.

Seeing the potential and interest in our products, we began developing our pear designs and creating further nature-inspired pieces, alongside our ever-growing range of popular animal and bird profiles.

With the encouragement of family and friends, we decided to take our designs to the people and attended our very first boutique market in Blackville in October 2018 (pic of our younger selves below at our very first market stall). We did so with trepidation, but the response was one of overwhelming positive feedback. The immediate interest was a huge success, giving us the confidence to turn our hobby into a full-time family micro-business. We then teamed up with passionate New England retailers focussed on supporting local artisans to share our products with a wider audience.

We are Jason and Karen Balsar, the husband-and-wife team who founded Design to Fab. The creative union of Karen's artistic vision with Jason's extensive metal and manufacturing expertise is the heart of our business. Today, we are both immersed full time in managing the demands of designing, processing laser cutting orders, and bringing complex custom projects to life.

We are committed to partnering with local small business and supporting the wider regional industry that supports us. We proudly use Australian-made steel products for every piece we cut and fabricate right here in Tamworth, Regional NSW.

Our business has primarily grown through repeat customers, client referrals, and customers appreciating our quality and designs. This loyalty is a direct reflection of the attention to detail we put into every single piece we create.
